In the small municipality of Isabela, Puerto Rico there's plenty of beaches. Though, there's nothing like Hobos beach. It's known to be one of the most dangerous beaches on the entire island, due to its fierce waves and riptides. In fact, it's supposed to be used for surfing purposes only, but everyone goes there for a good swim, anyway (I'm guilty of that).
In Hobos Beach, there is the most interesting thing I've ever seen in my life. There's a pit cave that promises death if anyone ever falls into it. Nothing protects the surface; no railings, no blocks—not a single thing. You could be walking through there at night, not even notice there's a gigantic hole that leads to a slow, watery death, and fall right into it. I didn't even notice there was a hole in the ground until my aunt warned me not to step further!
The backstory of the pit cave is.... interesting. They say that, way back in history, an old man was walking his cow at night. He was holding the cow on a leash, and suddenly the cow fell into the hole, dragging the old man with him and killing them both. It is said that if you scream "Jacinto, dame la vaca!" (Jacinto, give me the cow!) the splashing water against the rocks will shoot up even higher and burst out of the hole. Many visitors have said it does happen, and, scarily enough, it happened with me too. I definitely recommend visiting it one day.
